Date: October 21, 2011 Marinetek Heavy Duty Pontoons and Breakwaters are now being manufactured in Latvia in the most recent Marinetek production unit, which officially opened in Olaine on 19th October, 25 km from Riga city centre. The production programme includes all of the most popular larger sized concrete floats in addition to the timber systems, fingers and other components which have been produced in Latvia since 2005. Latvia has made progress in the Doing Business ranking - Latvia’s assessment has improved by ten positions, and Latvia aims to rank among the top 20 countries. Date: 14.09.2011. Dutch company Brabantia, Europe’s leading supplier of innovative household products, opened a production plant in Latvia in 2008. After a number of Eastern European countries were evaluated starting from December 2005, Brabantia first contacted the LIAA Representative Office in the Netherlands. Click here to read more. Date: 17.08.2011. The foundation of the new Malmar Sheet Metal plant was recently festively marked by embedding in concrete a capsule containing a message for the future. The company has been active in Ventspils for six years already but is planning to move to a new production plant next year. The production plant and its infrastructure will be constructed in Ganibu street 107 in Ventspils and the estimated costs are 2 million Lat. Most valuable will be the high-tech powder coating workshop, specialized only for the engineering industry. Also new laser cutting, welding and other equipment will be installed. The total estimated costs for the project are 4,06 million Lat, of which 2,23 million will be co-financed by the European Union and the loan for the upfront payment will be provided by DnB Nord Bank. In June, 2011 construction works started and will be concluded in February, 2012. The construction works are carried out by SIA “Ostas Celtnieks”. Date: 16.08.2011 Tomorrow the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), Ventspils City Council and Ventspils Free Port Authority will sign an agreement to implement a new method to attract foreign investors. To be able to attract foreign investments more actively, to plan and use available resources efficiently, LIAA has developed a method to attract foreign investments more targeted. The method is called the “POLARIS Process”. The aim of the agreement is to promote development of businesses within the administrative territory of the local government, by increasing (foreign) investments, by increasing the local government's national and international competitiveness and to expand the local government's cooperation with potential investment project developers. RIGA, Aug 15 (LETA) - Currently, the idea of creating an official "Facebook" page for Latvia on the social networking service "Facebook" is being considered, as LETA was informed by the State Chancellery. The plan is to create the page in English, using the name "Latvia", and the State Chancellery has addressed the Latvian Institute and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) to cooperate so as to provide a wide range of information about Latvia and common international communication on the page. Imprimatur Capital Technology Venture Fund and ZGI Nano have signed an investment in SIA “Naco Technologies” a young high-tech company based in Riga, Latvia, commercialising for a global market patented nano-coating technology developed at a leading research institute in Moscow, Russia. The Imprimatur Capital Technology Venture Fund, which originated the deal, has the European Investment Fund’s JEREMIE programme (co-financed by EU Structural Funds in Latvia) as its anchor investor, together with a number of pension funds and private individuals. Date: 27.04.2011. “Entrepreneurs from Latvia and abroad have already shown interest in our development of a micro-class multipurpose unmanned aircraft. The main goal of the project is to develop an unmanned aircraft that can monitor surroundings and buildings in order to increase the effectiveness of control and protection and to decrease the costs for that. We will patent our unmanned aircraft construction, the innovative composite materials we use and the development of the technologies. This project was awarded the highest ranking possible – 15 out of 15 points – by the European Union seventh framework program competition "REGPOT-2011-1". Company “AGA SIA” is planning to build a new gas production and filling facility in Latvia in the next 1,5 years. The factory will be located at the industrial territory of Zakumuiža in Ropaži, which complies with all modern technologies. AGA will produce and bottle gas and gas mixtures for industrial and pharmaceutical use and for the food industry. Besides that AGA will also produce a range of custom made innovative products with high added value, like for example odorized oxygen, several helium mixtures, dry ice and environmental friendly protection gas for welding. The Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) approved five new projects involving competence centers at which scientists and entrepreneurs will be working together on various projects that contribute to the Latvian economy and respective industries. The projects are supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which covers more than 60 percent of each project's costs, while entrepreneurs will provide the rest of the necessary funding.
