Commercialization Reactor, May 31 – June 2, 2011, Riga, Latvia
The international technology development and commercialization project “Commercialization Reactor” is a meeting place for Science and Business. Reactor aims to connect researchers with entrepreneurs and investors that lead the invention or technology to the market place and to the support needed to create and operate a successful high tech start-up in Latvia and the European Union.
Commercialization Reactor has been started by the team of experts of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), Virtual CEO Ltd. and the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) in 2009. It is supported by Swedbank, Baltic International Bank, Riga City Council, Air Baltic and Imprimatur Capital.
Since 2009 LIAA has hosted three Reactor events in Latvia. The fourth Reactor event will be held on May 31- June 2, 2011 in Riga, Latvia. Researchers of Latvia and the Commonwealth Independence States (CIS) are invited to presented their technologies and inventions to entrepreneurs of Latvia in this event.
The mission of the project is to foster the high tech entrepreneurship in Latvia. Both science and business are key factors affecting economic development. On the one hand scientists have developed many new technologies and inventions; while on the other hand, venture capitalists are looking for good, innovative, profitable projects in which to invest. Previous Reactor events show that an active, creative and educated businessman willing to take risks and to work in knowledge-based sector is missing link to obtain the necessary investments and create a successful business. Previous Reactor events show that the team "a scientist and entrepreneur" is a key factor for the success of the business project development and investment attraction. Therefore, the Reactor project is designed for anyone to find an attractive technology, to set up a business team and to start a new high tech business.
We invite to participate:
- Entrepreneurs (an experienced or a novice) who are interested to start a new high tech business in Latvia. Please fill in the online application form by April 21, 2011 here.
- Scientists in Latvia and the CIS who are interested to commercialize their scientific inventions. Please fill in the application form by April 8, 2011 and submit it by e-mail: biznesa.ideja@liaa.gov.lv. Download technology application form here.
Organizers will carefully evaluate and select for participation in the Reactor events scientific inventions with the highest commercial potential from the following high tech sectors:
- Electronics,
- Alternative Sources of Energy,
- Medical Devices,
- Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals,
- Information and Communications Technology.
The first day of the event - is devoted to the business training. The workshop "First Steps in the high-tech business" is organized for young entrepreneurs, who would like to gain knowledge of process of technology transfer and business development.
On the second day scientists will present their technologies to entrepreneurs. Business matchmaking event - individual meetings between scientists and entrepreneurs – will be organized in the afternoon. In the end of this day decisions are taken on creation of the commercialization teams (entrepreneur and scientist).
On the third day commercialization teams will participate in the investment readiness training and in the afternoon they will present their projects to potential investors and representatives of venture funds.
